Iraq announces Thursday public holiday due to ‘bad weather’

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Iraqi government on Wednesday announced that it will be a public holiday the next day in all provinces due to ‘bad weather’ without elaborating. The ruling does not apply to the Kurdistan Region.

Some Iraqi provinces have seen heavy rains since Tuesday, including the capital city of Baghdad.

Amr Jabri, spokesperson for Iraq’s meteorology department, told Rudaw that they expect the rain to continue in the coming days.

The Iraqi government announced Thursday a public holiday, citing “bad weather.” The decision does not affect the Kurdistan Region.

Cold weather has also dominated parts of the Kurdistan Region. It snowed in bordering areas like Haji Omran and Penjwen as well as in the vicinity of Sulaimani city late Wednesday.
