Baghdad protesters to leave green zone, commemorate Shiite Imam

BAGHDAD, Iraq – A committee of Baghdad protesters asked demonstrators on Sunday to leave the Green Zone to show respect for the commemoration of Shiite Imam Musa Kazim.

The committee released a statement telling the protesters to halt their demonstration out of respect for the holy Shiite event, taking place on Monday. Imam Musa Kazim was the seventh Shiite Imam.

The statement warned the government that they would restart the protest if the Prime Minister’s reforms do not meet their demands.

“If the government doesn’t accept our demands we will come back and the first thing we will ask for is the removal of the three presidencies of government and we will also demand an early election,” the statement read.

Rudaw correspondent, Bahman Hassan, said “protesters are leaving the Green Zone through Tashria gate.”
