On Sunday, in the vicinity of the village of Bewran, an avalanche struck a number of kolbar. Nine have been rescued, two seriously injured, and three bodies have been recovered.
Ali Mohammed Najad, 18, from Sardasht, Sherzad Abdulahi, 27, from Sardasht, and Hewa Ibrahimi, 22, from Bana city, were killed.
The search continues for others who may still be trapped under the snow.
Another two mountaineers were killed in an avalanche on Friday on Mount Wazna near the village of Qulqula. Hazher Qader and Muhiadin Salimi were killed.
Heavy snowfall hit the Kurdistan area over the weekend, blocking roads and creating dangerous conditions in the mountains.
The kolbars, cross-border smugglers carrying goods on their backs, are semi-legal.
