ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on Sunday that recent attacks on Tehran were a “mistake”, adding that Iranian officials must determine what is best for the country and act accordingly.

“Regarding this mistake they [Israel] made, they are exaggerating it with specific intentions. However, downplaying it and saying it was insignificant or unimportant is also wrong,” Khamenei remarked in a speech addressing families of those killed in Israeli attacks.

“Of course, our officials must assess the quality of the work correctly and do what is best for this country and its people,” he added.

The Iranian supreme leader said Israel does not understand “the strength, capability, creativity, and will of the Iranian nation.”

“We must make them understand this,” he added.

Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister in a statement to the Security Council of the United Nations on Sunday said that Iran, “reserves its inherent right to respond lawfully and legitimately to these criminal attacks at an appropriate time.”

Israel carried out strikes on Iranian targets in Tehran and several other provinces early Saturday morning, around 2 am local time, killing at least four service members of the Iranian army.

Following the attack state media reported that the Israeli missiles were “intercepted” and that the damages were “limited.”

Israel said the strikes were in response to Iran’s attacks on the Jewish state.
