ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The treasured Kurdish Peshmerga and revolutionary known for his dedication to his deceased wife and children, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 86.

Hussein Osmani was born in Iranian Kurdish village of Drwa in 1930. He was also known as Hussein Koken.

He joined the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) and served as a Peshmerga in both the Kurdistan Region and Kurdistan of Iran.

Hussein left his village after his wife and three sons died in a fire and chose a lonely life.

Though he had lost his leg by a shooting accident, he began carving a home in the mountain out grief for his family.

He carved seven rooms in a rocky mountain, as well as his own grave.

When he wanted to build a second floor to his cave home for the KDPI leadership, the Iranian authorities took away his tools to prevent his labour.
