One KDPI, one IRGC member killed in clashes in Iranian Kurdistan
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — One IRGC member and one Kurdish fighter in West Azerbaijan province were killed in clashes claimed by KDPI.
“The security guards in Piranshahr between Iraq-Iran borders were ambushed facing terrorists and anti-revolutionary groups,” Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency quoted Qasem Razayi, the commander of the border guards, as saying on Sunday.
He added that one of his guards was killed and another injured, claiming the IRGC killed a member from an unnamed armed group.
“Our forces in Piranshahr were attacked by the regime forces. After several hours of fighting under heavy artillery fire, the enemy was defeated with casualties,” stated KDPI.
KDPI named revolutionary guard Mohammad Hashemi as the deceased and Kasra Abdulalizadeh as the wounded.
On June 13, Iran delivered a formal complaint to the Kurdistan Regional Government about the movement of "terrorists" across their shared border.
Various Kurdish opposition parties from Iran have been based in the Kurdistan Region since 1991 and Tehran has repeatedly blamed the KRG for allowing the parties to cross the border and carry out military operations.
"We have asked and warned these groups not to use the land of Kurdistan Region against our neighbors Turkey and Iran,” KRG spokesperson Safeen Dizayee said in an interview on June 13 with Iran's Tasnim news agency.
