ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, who is on an official trip to Tehran, will meet with Iran’s newly-inaugurated president Ebrahim Raisi on Friday, according to a statement from Barzani’s office.
President Barzani led a Kurdistan Region delegation to Tehran on Thursday to attend Raisi’s swearing-in ceremony. The delegation includes the Ministers of Endowment and Religious Affairs, Culture and Youth, and Labor and Social Affairs, according to the statement.
“Continuing his official visit to Tehran, President Nechirvan Barzani is scheduled to meet with President Raisi and a number of high level officials of the Islamic Republic on Friday,” it added.
The inauguration was attended by several world leaders, including Iraqi President Barham Salih.
In his speech, Raisi said that his country will enter a “new era” during his presidency.
The Kurdistan Region and Iran have enjoyed good relations in the past, and share several border crossings.
