ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Clashes were reported in villages of the predominantly Kurdish city of Sardasht on Wednesday, with witnesses saying the fight was between Kurdish opposition forces and Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.

Witnesses in the villages of Hamran, Mewne and Sartke told Rudaw about the clashes, saying helicopters were also spotted overhead.

At least 15 ambulances were seen rushing into areas where security forces were deployed.

Iran’s Kurdish opposition has always had a tense relationship with the government in Tehran, but the groups had renounced violence and clashes had been rare.
