CENTCOM says conducted 15 anti-ISIS operations in October

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Sunday said the global coalition had carried out 15 operations against the Islamic State (ISIS) group in Iraq and Syria in October, killing two operatives and arresting dozens more.

“Since October 7, 2023, combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve and their partners, conducted a total of 15 defeat ISIS operations resulting in two operatives killed and 27 detained,” CENTCOM said on X.

The coalition advises and provides aerial assistance to Kurdish Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army as well as the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the fight against ISIS.

ISIS seized control of vast swathes of Iraqi and Syrian land in 2014 but was declared territorially defeated in 2017 and 2019 respectively. While the group lacks any territorial presence on the ground, it still continues to pose serious security risks through bombings, hit-and-run attacks, and abductions in both countries.

Despite the group having been significantly weakened over the years, CENTCOM said that it “remains committed to the enduring defeat of ISIS.”

Last month, a CENTCOM helicopter raid in northern Syria resulted in the capture of an ISIS facilitator. It followed another raid five days prior that captured another ISIS operative.
