Coalition airstrikes near Mosul, Raqqa

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – US-led coalition forces continued their bombing campaigns, reporting 11 airstrikes in Syria and nine in Iraq.

The airstrikes on Friday included targets near Raqqa, the Islamic State’s stronghold in Syria, and close to Mosul, the last major city under ISIS control in Iraq.

Fighter jets and drones conducted the strikes in Syria. Near Raqqa, “six strikes engaged an ISIL (ISIS) tactical unit and destroyed two bomb-making facilities, two oil well heads, three pump jacks and a vehicle,” the US Department of Defense (DoD) said in a statement on Saturday.

“Attack, bomber, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft conducted nine strikes in Iraq, coordinated with and in support of Iraq’s government,” the statement added.

“Near Mosul, three strikes engaged an ISIL tactical unit and destroyed two fighting positions, a rocket rail and a tunnel,” it said.
