ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi is set to visit Egypt on Monday to participate in a “mini-Arab summit” with regional leaders in an effort to agree on a unified stance on various international issues.

Leaders of Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Bahrain are also expected to attend the summit to address several topics, including the Palestinian issue and regional security challenges, reported state media.

"Kadhimi will confirm to the mini-Arab summit the Iraqi government's efforts to continue supporting dialogue between brothers in the region and Iraq's keenness to continue the policy of balance in relations and security stability in the country,” a government source told the media outlet.

Iraq, Egypt, and Jordan share strong ties. Last year, a tripartite meeting was held by the countries in Baghdad, during which they discussed cooperation in the fields of security, military, and intelligence.

The three countries after the meeting agreed to strengthen cooperation in the gas and electricity sector, with Iraqi oil to be exported to Egypt and Jordan through the Arab Gas Line and a crude oil line linking Basra to the Jordanian city of Aqaba.

Kadhimi aims to continue strengthening bilateral ties with Egypt and advancing "sustainable development, especially in the fields of infrastructure and electric power as well as strengthening the fields of economic, commercial, and investment cooperation,” the statement also added.
