Syrian opposition and regime level conspiratorial accusations against Israel
Representatives from both the Syrian regime and the Syrian opposition have made conspiratorial accusations against the State of Israel in recent days.
Their accusations come after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that the Golan Heights region "will remain forever under Israeli sovereignty."
Syria's envoy to the United Nations, Bashar Ja'afari, alleged that Netanyahu's statement proved Israel is helping both al-Qaeda and the Islamic State (ISIS).
"This Israeli provocation confirms without any doubt the cooperation between Israel and terrorists of Daesh [ISIS] and Nusra Front on the demarcation line between where the Golan is and UN troops are positioned," Ja'afari said in a press briefing on Monday after meeting the UN's special envoy to Syria, Staffan de Mistura.
The chief coordinator of the mainstream Syrian opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC) umbrella group, Riad Hijab, meanwhile accused Israel of supporting Assad.
"If it weren't for the support of the Israeli occupation Bashar Assad wouldn't remain [in power] until now," Hijab said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Hijab also condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's remark about the Golan region.
"We won't give up our territorial completeness or on the unification of our social fabric," Hijab insisted, "We won't concede a single grain of soil. The Golan is Syrian land and it will be returned to Syria."
