ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The bodies of two Kurds killed in the December Paris shooting were returned to Turkey's Kurdish southeast region and a third dead body was returned to the Kurdistan Region's Sulaimani province.
In late December, a 69-year-old man attacked the Ahmet Kaya Kurdish Cultural Centre in Rue d'Enghien street, Paris. Three people were killed and three others were injured in the shooting.
The victims were Abdurrahman Kizil, singer, and political refugee Mir Perwer and Emine Kara, a leader of the Movement of Kurdish Women in France. Kizil was buried in Kars city and Perwer in Mus - both in Turkey. Kara was returned to Sulaimani city in Iraqi Kurdistan and from there she was taken to Mount Qandil, a rugged mountainous region where the headquarters of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) is located.
On Tuesday, a ceremony was held in Paris to pay tribute to the victims of the incident.
The Kurdish Democratic Council in Paris organized the ceremony, which was attended by Kurdish residents and other citizens of Paris, activists, and friends of the victims.
The ceremony lasted about three hours and the Paris municipality also participated in the event. The bodies were flown to Istanbul through a Paris airport.
Even though the suspect was charged with “murder” and “attempted murder,” Kurds in Paris continue to hold demonstrations protesting their lack of protection in the French capital, as December’s attack marks the second incident targeting Kurds in Paris in less than a decade.
