The Kani Qirzhala landfill in the outskirts of Erbil is a place where some IDPS, the poor, destitute and homeless make a living. According to figures from Erbil municipality, nearly 2,300 tons of garbage is dumped there every day. Food wastes makes up more than 50 percent of it.

Those who work in Kani Qirzhala to earn a living are mostly Arab IDPs.

“My wife, son and I work here from 7am to 2pm, earning a total of 20,000 dinars,” an Arab IDP told Rudaw while picking through piles of freshly dumped garbage.
