Duhok from A to Z: nine-volume encyclopedia published

DUHOK, Kurdistan Region – After five years of work, a nine volume encyclopedia on Duhok province was published on Thursday.

The work “is a unified source that contains all information about all the aspects of Duhok. If one day, any reader, or any researcher needs information about Duhok province, they can find enough information inside the volumes of Duhok encyclopedia," Musadiq Toufi, general supervisor of project, told Rudaw.

"Approximately 120 individuals, ranging from university professors, researchers, writers, and intellectuals of Duhok province and outside Duhok contributed,” he explained.

Toufi said they have plans to digitize the 5,000 pages of information and, if they get the help, hope to offer Arabic and English translations.

The encyclopedia will be sold for a token, symbolic price.

The governor of Duhok welcomed the project as an important resource for the province.

"This encyclopedia has covered all districts and sub-districts of the Duhok governorate. I congratulate all of the people of Duhok and I also congratulate the people of Kurdistan because the definition of any people, of any country, stems from such intellectual endeavours,” said Farhad Atrushi.

The governor thanked the creators of the encyclopedia for their efforts, saying it was not an easy task.
