3 killed, 5 injured in Duhok family land dispute

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Three individuals have been killed and five are in a critical condition after fighting between two families of the same tribe in a village in Duhok. The dispute was over land.

“This incident happened in the Kani Shirin village. It was over a land issue. They are the same tribe. Three have been killed so far, and five individuals have been injured. The situation is under control. The injured have been sent to two hospitals. Five people have been arrested,” Duhok police official Tariq Ahmed told Rudaw.

An individual from one of the families, claiming to be helping doctors, later gained access to the hospital treating the wounded and severely injured a member of the rival family.

The police official said the situation is under control and that the wounded of each family are now being treated in separate hospitals.

One group is being treated at the emergency hospital while the others are receiving care in the Azadi hospital.

“The condition of the injured here is bad. All three require urgent surgery, and the surgeries are difficult,” the supervisor of the emergency hospital told Rudaw.

He said medical staff called the security forces to protect the hospital from further trouble.

Police are stationed in both hospitals, according to the police official.

On March 17, a family feud in Raniya resulted in eight deaths and 10 injuries.
