Turkmen tribal leader killed by suspected drone in Sulaimani’s Kifri
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A Turkmen tribal leader was killed in an explosion caused by a suspected drone attack in Kifri, in southern Sulaimani province on Sunday. Authorities are investigating the details, but a political party blamed “terrorists.”
Sahir Ali, the mayor of Kifri, identified the deceased as Hussein Aloush, leader of the Turkmen tribe Bayat.
“We do not know what caused the explosion, but we are investigating the incident,” the mayor told Rudaw’s Soran Hussein.
The Iraqi Turkmen Front said in a statement that Aloush was killed in a “drone attack” and denounced what it called a “terrorist operation.”
They party on Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani to “take urgent measures” to “eliminate terrorist organzations.”
Kifri is located in the Garmiyan independent administration where such attacks are rare.
