ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The desire to defend one’s home from the wrath of the Islamic State knows no gender.

For Hadia Saeed, a female Peshmerga from Rojava, serving her fellow fighters and assisting the wounded on the battlefield is a duty she proudly fulfills.

A battalion of 200 female Peshmerga have been standing guard in Shingal since it was liberated by the Peshmerga earlier this month. They are ready, they say, to fight wherever and whenever they are needed.
