Peshmerga convoy returns from battle-scarred Kobane
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - After seven months of struggle in the Syrian city of Kobane, the troops of the Kurdistan Regional Government have begun returning home, leaving the area under the protection of the Kurdish Protection Units, a Peshmerga commander told Rudaw.
On Thursday morning the fourth convoy, including 112 Peshmerga fighters, returned to the Kurdistan region, with only 12 Peshmerga remaining in Kobane to bring back vehicles and heavy weapons through Turkey.
“At the time of withdrawal in Kobane, the people were sad but it is a military plan that we should implement. The return of the Peshmerga from Kobane to the Kurdistan region was ordered by the Kurdistan region president Masoud Barzani,” Brigadier Qahar Mohammed told Rudaw on Thursday.
The first Peshmerga brigade left Erbil for Kobane on October 28. It was followed by three more brigades over the last seven months.
