Peshmerga foil ISIS attempt to attack frontlines in Shingal

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Peshmerga forces reported defeated a three-pronged Islamic State, or ISIS offensive in the predominantly Yezidi town of Shingal, a Peshmerga official, told Rudaw Wednesday.

"ISIS militants launched an assault agaisnt the Peshmerga in three different directions in Shingal including Said Zainab, Smail Bag Qalaa and Hai Nasr, but the Peshmerga repulsed and defeated the assault." said Brig. Izadin Sado ,a Peshmega commander on the Shingal front.

Several ISIS militants were killed and wounded  in the clashes by the Peshmerga, and the Peshmerga did not have casualties, Sado said.
Latest ISIS assault on the Peshmerga in Shingal took place on Octobr 5, when Kurdish forces repulsed an Islamic State a Peshmerga official old Rudaw .

“Islamic State militants in the town of Shingal launched an assault on the Peshmerga forces, but the Kurdish forces fiercely defeated the attack, inflicting casualties among the militants,” Brigadier Issa Zewai, a Peshmerga commander in the area.

“The Peshmerga and the extremists locked in an hour-long battle, but later the militants retreated, leaving a dead body behind,” Zewai, added.

US-led coalition forces also bombarded ISIS bases in Shingal, killing or wounding fighters, he continued.
