Peshmerga kill six ISIS militants who infiltrated Shingal

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — Six ISIS fighters who infiltrated into the Yezidi area of Shingal were killed on Tuesday as they clashed with the Kurdish Peshmerga.

Brig. Gen. Sme Bosali, a Peshmerga commander, told Rudaw that a local notified Peshmerga forces in Shingal that their son had been arrested by ISIS fighters. It was then that the Peshmerga were deployed to an area close to a cement factory and started an armed clash with the six ISIS militants.

Bosali said that one of the ISIS militants detonated himself, the rest were killed and their bodies are now with the Peshmerga.

The person who was taken hostage by the ISIS militants was also released, and he is said to be safe.

Bosali said that they had prior intelligence that ISIS may make some movements in the area.

However, the head of Shingal Asayish differed in the account of the clashes. He said that the clashes happened as the extremist militants fell into a Peshmerga ambush.

“The militants came from Tal Afar,” Qsim Smo, told Rudaw, “and they wanted to cross into Syria from Shingal, but they fell into a Peshmerga ambush.”
