Veteran Peshmerga killed, four injured by planted bomb west of Kirkuk
KIRKUK, Kurdistan Region – One Peshmerga was killed and four more were injured by a planted bomb west of Kirkuk on Saturday, officials say.
The bomb went off during a rotation of forces of the fifth Peshmerga regiment in the area, Colonel Sayid Luqman told Rudaw on Saturday.
He said that a veteran Peshmerga who was transporting some of the forces by a civilian minibus to their station died and four more were injured.
Brigadier General Hama Regir, acting commander of the Peshmerga force on Kirkuk's west front, said that the injuries were light and the soldiers were transferred to a hospital.
As of mid-July, the Peshmerga lost 1,745 soldiers and sustained 10,069 injuries since the war began against the ISIS group about three years ago.
ISIS is still in control of Hawija and some other areas south and west of Kirkuk.
