Bodies of 20 drowned Kurdish migrants found on Greek island
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – The bodies of 20 Kurdish migrants who drowned in the Aegean Sea last week have been found on a Greek Island, Kurdish immigration officials said.
Nazhat Hussein from the Erbil immigrant department told Rudaw that the bodies found on the Greek island of Kalymnos were part of the 70 Kurdish migrants who drowned as their boat capsized in the Aegean on Friday.
Most of the immigrants came from Sulaimani province.
According to one survivor their boat was dragged under by the big waves after they were stranded in the sea for three hours and ran out of fuel.
The immigration department revealed the names of the bodies found on Wednesday, adding that the search was on for six more that are still missing.
Hussein urged relatives of the dead to contact his office to arrange the repatriation process of the bodies to the Kurdistan Region.
