ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—Two people were killed at the Makhmour refugee camp Friday morning when a suspected Islamic State (ISIS) militant blew himself up inside the facility that houses thousands of Iraqi refugees.
Polat Bozan, the public relations officer at the camp told Rudaw that the suicide bomber was believed to have been a member of ISIS.
Bozan added that security guards at the camp shot and killed a second militant when he tried to infiltrate the camp.
The Makhmour camp, 40 miles south of Erbil, houses thousands of Iraqi refugees, most of whom have fled ISIS-controlled areas in and around Mosul in recent months.
