ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—An estimated 1,800 Peshmerga soldiers have lost their lives and more than 9,000 have been wounded in 800 days of war with the Islamic State (ISIS), according to official figures obtained by Rudaw TV.
The war has cost the Kurdistan Regional Government $1 billion to date.
The sum of $18 million has been spent on medical care for wounded Peshmerga. And $7.2 million has gone to the families of Peshmerga who have lost their lives.

Estimated expenses of $1 million per day include purchasing arms, bullets and ammunition, fuel, and medicine, digging trenches and constructing outposts, as well as providing other necessities such as food.

Despite the expenditures, the KRG budget has been withheld by Baghdad since 2014 and a slump in oil prices also hit the region’s finances.
