ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - At least three rockets targeted Khor Mor gas field, operated by the UAE-based Dana Gas in Chamchamal district of Sulaimani, the district’s mayor told Rudaw on Monday, exactly one month after a series of rocket attacks struck the field in June.

The rockets struck at around 7:50pm, Mayor of Chamchamal district Ramik Ramadhan told Rudaw’s Hemin Baban, adding that the extent of damages made due to the attack remain unclear.

Ahmed Mufti, Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) natural resources deputy minister, confirmed the news to Rudaw, adding that investigations into the incident have begun.

"The rockets have landed in the vicinity of the field," said Mufti, adding that "they have not resulted in any casualties."

Mufti stressed that the attack has not affected the field's work process and that gas production continues as usual.

The KRG condemned the attack later in the evening, calling on the Iraqi government to take the necessary measurements to prevent the repetition of such attacks.

"We call on the Iraqi Federal Government to take the necessary measures to limit and prevent a repetition of these terrorist attacks, which seek to destroy the security and stability of the whole of Iraq and the economic development of the Kurdistan Region," read a statement from KRG Spokesperson Jotiar Adil on Monday.

The Kurdistan Region has been facing an unprecedented number of rocket and drone attacks since the beginning of the year, mostly blamed on Iran-backed militias.

Three rockets struck the key Khor Mor gas field in a matter of four days in June, leading Dana Gas to temporarily suspended the work on one of its expansion projects. At least two contractors were injured as a result of June’s attacks.

No parties have assumed responsibility for the attacks.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said in June that he was troubled by the attacks on Khor Mor, noting that additional security forces will be deployed to the area.

Khor Mor field produces 452 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, according to Dana Gas.
