ERBIL, Kurdistan Region- Coalition warplanes bombed Islamic State (ISIS) positions that were firing on Peshmerga forces on the Gwer front southwest of Erbil on Wednesday, killing six militants, a Kurdish commander told Rudaw.

“ISIS militants attacked the Peshmerga with mortars and artillery in Ibrahim Khalil village on the Gwer front,” said Qadir Qadir, who commands the Gwer front.

“Coalition warplanes managed to repel the attack and bombard ISIS, which led to the deaths of six militants,” he added.

Peshmerga forces also managed to foil an attack by ISIS suicide bombers on the Bashik front, killing two militants.

ISIS militants have recently been suffering a series of setbacks and losses on the battlefield against the Peshmerga. The Iraqi Army and its allied militias are currently pushing toward Fallujah to push ISIS out of the first city in Iraq that the militants seized in their June 2014 blitzkrieg.
