KDP, PUK, KIU reaffirm holding referendum in Kirkuk on Monday
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Three major Kurdish parties reaffirmed on Sunday that the independence referendum will be held in Kirkuk as initially decided on.
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) and Kirkuk local authorities including Governor Najmaldin Karim and Rebwar Talabani, the head of the Provincial Council, announced after their meeting on Sunday that the independence referendum will be held in Kirkuk on time, along with the Kurdistan Region’s other four provinces.

On Saturday, several PUK officials' and elements conflicting statements that alleged the postponement of the referendum and the holding of the process in the multi-ethnic disputed or Kurdistani city, claimed by both Erbil and Baghdad.
Saadi Pira, a member of the High Referendum Council delegation to Baghdad and the spokesperson for the PUK, said on Saturday that his party remains committed to holding the vote on time.
Kurdish President Masoud Barzani said in a statement yesterday after meeting with France's ambassador to Iraq that "the referendum will take place on time.”
