Three ISIS militants arrested in the city of Kirkuk have confessed their allegiance to the Islamic State and admitted taking part in many battles against Kurdish forces.

“Last night, we captured three ISIS militants when they infiltrated Kirkuk,” said Brigadier Sarhad Qadir, the police chief of Kirkuk and its suburbs, on Tuesday.

He added: “The three militants are Arabs and were residents of Kirkuk. Three months ago, they joined ISIS and took part in many clashes against the Peshmerga.”

According to Qadir, these militants slipped into southern Kirkuk, through the Rashad border, to visit their relatives.

He said the police were tipped off to their presence and were able to pursue and arrest them, adding that a Kurdish court will sentence them in accordance with Article 4 of the law on terrorism.

“They are all Arabs and have confessed that many foreign and Kurdish militants have taken part in the fights alongside them,” Qadir said.
