Kurds hope presidential guards can restore security in Tuz Khurmatu
A large number of Kurds displaced from Tuz Khurmatu have pinned their hopes on the news of a possible deployment of Iraqi presidential guards to the city in order to restore security.
But the Shiite Turkmen of Tuz Khurmatu are against the move, putting much pressure on the ruling Shiite government in Baghdad to prevent the force, made up of Kurds, from coming to the ethnically mixed city which saw brutal actions by multiple Shiite militias against Kurdish inhabitants, forcing a myriad of them to abandon home on October 16 and onwards.
Political and security officials of Tuz Khurmatu believe the best solution to the city is the formation of a joint force, compensating the affected people and putting on trial those who committed crimes against Kurdish civilians.
