Kurdish unity reportedly on agenda as HDP delegation visits Erbil
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region—A delegation from Turkey’s pro-Kurdish party, the People’s Democratic Party (HDP), headed by its co-chair Selahattin Demirtas, will arrive in Erbil on Wednesday for meetings with Kurdistan Region leaders. The peace process in Turkey and finding solutions to internal tensions among Kurds will reportedly be on the agenda.
The HDP delegation will meet with Masoud Barzani, president of Kurdistan Region, Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani, and officials of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Goran movement, and Islamic parties.
According to information obtained by Rudaw, Demirtas will meet with Masoud Barzani on Wednesday and with the prime minister and other leaders on Thursday.
The HDP delegation includes Selahattin Demirtas, Fatma Kurtulan, Nadir Yildirim, Osman Baydemir, Basima Kogan, Imam Tascier, and Jalal Dogan, according to HDP media sources.
Abdullatif Yassin, head of the office of the Kurdistan Islamic Union party (KIU) secretary, told Rudaw “Demirtas will visit KIU leader Saladin Mohammed Bahadin on Thursday, and will discuss resuming the peace process in northern Kurdistan [Turkey] and unity of all the parts of Kurdistan.”
The Islamic group also confirmed the HDP delegation will meet with Ali Bapir, leader of the Islamic group, on Thursday.
The HDP delegation is due to spend four days in the Kurdistan Region. They are expected to also hold meetings with representatives of civil society organizations.
