YPG holds ceremony in Kobane for fighters killed by ISIS
In the ethnically Kurdish town of Kobane, in Syria, officials and the families of YPG [People's Protection Unit] fighters killed in the war against ISIS were honored in a ceremony at the martyrs’ cemetery.
"The Kobane region was defended with our friends’ blood from ISIS, which wanted to massacre Kurds. Our friends went and defended our nation. They said the most valuable thing in the world was life and we would sacrifice it to defend our nation and land," said one participant.
Kobane was liberated from ISIS in January after a long battle with the extremists. The town has become a symbol of Kurdish sacrifice.
"Remembering martyrs and honoring their lives is the duty of all Kurds. Because the attacks on Kurds continue, the list of Kurdish martyrs will also continue. From now on, Kobane will be a symbol of martyrs for all of Kurdistan."
