Foreign diplomats in Erbil send celebratory Newroz message

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Heads of Erbil’s foreign diplomatic mission shared their warm greetings as Kurds prepare to mark the Kurdish New Year with celebrations across the Kurdistan Region.

Known as Newroz, Kurds celebrate their New Year on March 21-23 by picnicking in the countryside and lighting bonfires with their families and loved ones.

Celebrations and festivities are held across the Kurdistan Region with hundreds of thousands of Kurds dancing in their colorful and traditional Kurdish clothes.

Thousands of tourists from across Iraq have flocked the Region for Newroz celebrations as well. 

On this occasion, diplomatic missions in Erbil extended their warm wishes to the Kurdish people.

The US Consul General to Erbil, Robert Palladino, wished Kurds a happy Newroz while wearing the traditional Kurdish outfit.

 

 

The Deputy Consul General of Germany in Erbil, Sven Mossler, said Newroz “stands for the reaffirmation of Kurdish identity and the longing for freedom and peace.”

The Chinese Consul General to Erbil, Ni Ruchi, also extends his warm wishes to Kurds across the Kurdistan Region.

The UK Consul General to Erbil, David Hunt, wished Kurds a happy Newroz in Kurdish saying “Newroztan piroz bet.”

Wishing Kurds a happy New Year, the Greek Consul General to Erbil, Stavros Kyrimis, also expressed the importance of the Kurdistan Region to the European Union and other neighboring countries.

The Consul General of the Republic of India, Subhash Chandra Kain, says Newroz represents "renewal" while wishing Kurds a happy Kurdish New Year.
