A cemetery of the Malatya municipality expanded drastically following the earthquake, with new graves being dug for victims of the devastating earthquake. Many of the graves are unnamed and only numbered.

A destructive 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Turkey’s southern city of Kahramanmaras on February 6, with its impact ripping through neighboring Syria as well. At least 41,156 people have lost their lives to the tremor in Turkey, according to the country’s disaster agency.

In Malatya alone, more than 1,300 people have been killed and over 6,000 injured.

The increase in the number of graves has led to an influx of the relatives of the deceased vising the graveyard, which in turn has benefited the birds because some of these people feed them.
