ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Ten tourists were injured when their bus overturned in northern Duhok province on Friday, a local official said.

The incident took place at Gali Sherana resort, one of Duhok’s most popular tourist sites located near the town of Amedi, Hamid Salih, the director of Amedi’s tourism directorate, told Rudaw on Friday.

The 10 tourists who were injured are from Mosul.

Salih said the injured are receiving treatment at two hospitals.

Two people were injured by glass from broken windows and were transferred to Duhok emergency hospital, according to the Amedi health directorate.

Car accidents are a common occurrence in the Kurdistan Region.

With its relatively moderate temperatures in comparison to the rest of the country and its varied, beautiful nature, the Kurdistan Region is a popular tourist destination, attracting millions of visitors every year. Many tourists come from other areas of Iraq, particularly the south where summer temperatures regularly reach 50 degrees Celsius and a lack of access to basic services such as water and electricity makes it difficult for people to cope with the heat.
