ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - At least one person was killed in Duhok’s Shiladze district as a result of suspected Turkish bombardment on Thursday morning.

Kamaran Osman, member of the US-based Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) - Iraqi Kurdistan team, told Rudaw that 32-year-old Osman Rushdi lost his life due to the bombardment.

Fakhri Khalil, a cousin of the victim, confirmed the news to Rudaw.

Rushdi was reportedly beekeeping in Bariske village when the warplanes struck the area at around 6:00 am.

“He had a wife but not children… he was a member of the Peshmerga forces,” Osman added.

Turkey deployed hundreds of troops and military vehicles into the Kurdistan Region in June, establishing checkpoints and conducting patrols in Duhok’s Barwari Bala area. The latest military campaign has sparked renewed fears among villagers.

The CPT, a rights group that closely monitors the Turkey-PKK conflict, said that Turkish army has struck the Kurdistan Region over 380 times in the past month, with the vast majority of the attacks targeting Duhok province.

According to the rights group, nine villages in Duhok have been “completely” emptied and 184 families have been displaced since tensions escalated in mid-June.

At least nine people have been killed in Turkish attacks on the Kurdistan Region since the start of the year, according to Osman.
