#Halabja remembered on social networking sites

Social networking sites around the world have been flooded with comments on Monday marking the 27th anniversary of the gas attacks on Halabja city, in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq.

The brutal 1988 attacks carried out by the government of former dictator Saddam Hussein, and which were later declared a genocide, killed more than 5,000 people, including many women and children.

Micro-blogging site Twitter erupted with Tweets from Kurdish and non-Kurdish politicians.
