Once displaced by ISIS, Christian family now flees Turkish bombardment in Duhok

BERSIVE, Kurdistan Region — A family displaced from a Nineveh village by the Islamic State (ISIS) in 2014 thought they were safe in Duhok province, but they have now had to flee Turkish bombardments in Kani Masi. 

Matra Khoshaba, 71, fled from Tel Kaif when ISIS swept through the area. 

"I fled to Chalke and bought new belongings. We settled there and had a good life," she told Rudaw. "Turkey and the PKK [Kurdistan Worker's Party] came and we escaped."

Khoshaba and her husband have now fled Chalke, a Christian village which was completely emptied due to Turkish bombardments last week.

Their son remains in Chalke to tend to their small flock of sheep. 

"We were bombed in Chalke and fled. Where do we go? Our windows were shattered. We fled and came here," said her husband Youhanna Oshana.
