Iran’s Quds commander pays his respects at Jalal Talabani tomb

SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region – The Commander of Iran’s Quds Force, Major General Qassem Soleimani, paid a visit to the tomb of former Iraqi president and PUK leader Jalal Talabani in Sulaimani on Saturday, laying a wreath, Aras Sheikh Jangi, Talabani’s nephew, told Rudaw.

“Soleimani was an old friend of Mam Jalal. He visited his grave and laid a wreath on it today as he couldn't attend his memorial,” Jangi said.

Soleimani wrote a note of condolence at the tomb, saying Mam Jalal was “a fighter who served nearly 60 years to achieve freedom for the Iraqi nation, including the Arabs Kurds, Turkmen, Shiites, Sunnis, Christians, and Yazidis.”

“Talabani was a great man. New presidential positions didn't affect his greatness. Rather, it was he who gave greatness and honor to these positions. He was a person who often saved Iraq from disagreements and problems,” he wrote.
