Peshmerga artillery pounds ISIS on Bashik front near Mosul

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Kurdish artillery pounded the Islamic State (ISIS) on the Bashik front, southeast of the extremist-held city of Mosul, killing several the group’s militants, a Peshmerga official told Rudaw on Sunday.

“Later this evening the Peshmerga launched  a mortar operation targeting ISIS movements and bases near the Bashik front, killing two and wounding a dozen of the militants,” Brig. Gen. Musa Gardi, commander of the Halgurd command, said.

“Because of the fire, many mines and booby traps planted by ISIS, who were fearing our every advance, detonated by themselves,” he added.

Gardi said the Peshmerga did suffer any casualties.

In earlier clashes on the Bashik front, ISIS militants were repulsed in a fierce assault early April on Peshmerga stockades.
