KIFRI, Kurdistan Region — Five unnamed Islamic State militants surrendered themselves to Kurdish Peshmerga forces Sunday, Kurdish officials told Rudaw.

“They surrendered themselves through their tribal chief, and are now under investigation by Kurdish forces,” Osman Abdulkarim, a Kifri security forces spokesman, said.

Abdulkarim added that the militants also handed over their weapons.

Located in Sulaimani province, Kifri is a small town that had a population of 42,000 in 2003, and a Turkmen majority. Authorities did not identify the ethnicity of the militants who turned themselves in.
