DUHOK, Kurdistan Region — The Duhok Women’s Sports Club has taken up hiking.

“This is good for everything. It’s good for your mental health and your body,” said club member Runak Abdullah.

Their first hike saw 70 women and girls of all ages hiking for five kilometres on Mount Segirka, just north of the city.

The head of the club, Chirisk Younis, said they want to encourage women to get outdoors and hike. “We, as Duhok Women’s Sports Club, see housewives as leaders,” she said.
