Asayish member shot dead in Duhok; assailant killed

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - An unidentified gunman opened fire on a local security forces (Asayish) station in Duhok, killing at least one of the security personnel and injuring another. The assailant was also reported killed following the clashes with the security forces.

The killed Asayish member has been identified as Azad Ibrahim, a father of two, while the injured has undergone surgery and is currently in stable condition, according to Rudaw’s reporter Ayub Nasri.

The assailant was reportedly not from the Kurdistan Region.

Investigation into the incident has been initiated by the relevant authorities.

The Asayish later in the day described the incident as a terrorist attack, saying that the results of the ongoing investigation will be released to the public.
