Twin bomb attacks kill 4, wound 10 in Baghdad

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Two bomb attacks north and south of Baghdad killed four people, including two Iraqi soldiers on Friday, an Iraqi official told Rudaw. 

A roadside bomb hit an army convoy in Tarmiyah, 60 km north of Baghdad, killing two Iraqi soldiers and wounding another two, an official from the Iraqi interior ministry who asked not to be named told Rudaw. 

He added that another bomb attack south of Baghdad targeted a grocery market in the Yousifiyah sub-district, killing two civilians and wounding another eight. 

No group has claimed responsibility for either attack.

The Iraqi and Kurdish forces have launched a major offensive against the Islamic State group to reclaim Mosul, the second largest Iraqi city and the stronghold for the extremist group in the country.

Since the launch of the Mosul offensive more than three weeks ago, ISIS militants have scaled up their bomb attacks in various parts of the country.

Last Sunday, the group claimed responsibility for two bomb attacks south of Mosul, in Tikrit and Samarra, which killed at least 21 people.
