Special parking lots to be built for the disabled in Erbil: Official
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Erbil authorities are planning to build parking lots for drivers with special needs, especially in the downtown, a traffic spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Many countries have dedicated special parking lots for the disabled people but this has not been the case in the Kurdistan Region. Spokesperson for Erbil’s traffic police announced on Tuesday that they are planning to build these places to make the capital city different from the rest of the Region.
“Erbil traffic [department] has such a project. It has been discussed in meetings several times. We have to show a civilised aspect of Erbil as it is the capital city of the Kurdistan Region,” Fadhil Haji told Rudaw’s Nazanin Goran, adding that the lack of such parking lots in Erbil is a “shortcoming.”
He noted that a committee will be formed to start working on the project.
The spokesperson also said that they will build these garages near the bazaar and other public places to help drivers with special needs arrive in these areas with least effort.
Erbil Traffic Police Directorate first announced the project on October 4, calling on the governor’s office to specify areas for the parking lots.
