Barzani National Memorial inaugurated
BARZAN, Kurdistan Region - With the participation of the Kurdistan Region’s top officials, leaders of political parties, and representatives of foreign countries, the Barzani National Memorial was launched in Erbil province’s Barzan area on Thursday.
The memorial includes a museum, gallery hallway, library, mosque, and an auditorium. It also includes a mosaic mural which features Mullah Mustafa Barzani’s struggle for Kurdish freedom. It is composed of pieces of natural stones from different parts of Greater Kurdistan.
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Masoud Barzani, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani as well as representatives of Iraqi and Kurdish political parties and foreign missions attended the event.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, President Abdul Latif Rashid, and Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Mohammed al-Halbousi also traveled to Barzan to attend the event.
Born in 1903 in Barzan area, Mullah Mustafa Barzani was the founder of the KDP and led the Kurdish freedom movement for decades before his death in 1979.
The clothing, personal tools, and other belongings of Mullah Mustafa Barzani and his late son Idris Barzani – which they used during their struggle for freedom – are also displayed in the museum.
