Gorran, Komal, CDJ join forces for Iraqi elections in disputed areas

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Three Kurdish opposition parties will team up to run on a joint list in Iraqi elections in the disputed areas.

The Change Movement (Gorran), Kurdistan Islamic Group (Komal) and the newly established Coalition for Democracy and Justice (CDJ) have decided to run in the upcoming Iraqi elections on a joint list in Kirkuk and other disputed areas.

Wriya Mohammed, a member of Gorran’s elections body confirmed the news to Gorran’s Sbeiy media, saying the three parties had reached a final decision.

They will run under the name Nishtiman, meaning Homeland. The three parties jointly visited Baghdad last week to discuss Erbil-Baghdad relations with Iraqi officials, including Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

Iraq is expected to hold parliamentary and provincial elections on May 12.
