Karim Zand, famous Kurdish historian dies at 93

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Karim Zand, a prominent Kurdish historian, geographer and explorer died at the age of 93 in Sulaimani on Tuesday.

Zand was born in Malkandi neighborhood in Sulaimani in 1924. The famous Kurdish historian had graduated from the Teaching Institute in Baghdad.

Zand who started his writings in the 1940s, took part in the short-lived Kurdish Mahabad Republic. After its dissolution, he went to the Soviet Union alongside iconic Kurdish leader Mustafa Barzani. 


During his lifetime, he had published many books, of which 15 of them were diverse writings on the geography and history fields of Kurdistan.
