ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — In an interview at the base of Mount Shingal, Kurdish Yezidi military and political leader Qasem Shesho swore allegiance to the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) of Kurdistan region President Masoud Barzani, and said he wanted the Yezidis included in any future independent Kurdish state.

“We only trust the Barzani family and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), and especially President Masoud Barzani himself," Shesho told Rudaw. “We don’t trust anybody else.”

“Since 1970 I have been with Kurdistan Democratic Party,” he said. “Whenever Kurdistan becomes an independent state we will be under its control and then nothing bad will happen to us.”
