PDKI official dies of injuries sustained in Iran missile attack
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – An official of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) died on Sunday of injuries sustained in the Iranian missile attack on the party’s Koya headquarters.
"As of now, 15 people have died. The latest one was Mohammed Qadir Zada, a member of the PDKI leadership who died in Sulaimani after sustaining critical injuries," Sherwan Jalal, deputy manager of Koya health department, confirmed to Rudaw on Sunday.
The bodies of two more people have not yet been retrieved from under the rubble, Rudaw’s reporter in the city said, bringing the death toll to 17.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) fired seven surface-to-surface missiles on Saturday, striking the Kurdistan Region camps and headquarters of two Iranian-Kurdish parties, the PDKI and the KDP-I, while they were holding leadership meetings.
Private funerals have been held with little ceremony as the parties fear renewed attacks.
Forty-six people were injured in the attack, according to figures from the health department. Nine have been admitted into hospitals in Erbil, 16 in Sulaimani, and the others are being treated in Koya.
Among the wounded are PDKI secretary general Mustafa Mawludi and his predecessor Khalid Azizi. Both are in non-critical condition, according to the health department’s Jalal, who said they suffered minor injuries only.
Azizi was transferred to Erbil upon a call from the US consul general, according to Jalal.
